- We have an exciting opportunity for a Technical Officer to join our Microbiology and Food Assurance team at our Research and Development Centre in Palmerston North on a fixed term basis.As a Technical Officer in our IANZ microbiology laboratory, you will provide hands-on technical expertise to support our Food Assurance Scientists, Fonterra R&D projects, and business support activities. The role involves performing a variety of accredited food safety tests across various and novel dairy samples. You will maintain and participate in our established Quality Management System and work in accordance with ISO 17025 laboratory practices.
- **Key responsibilities include**:
- Performing routine microbiology food safety tests in our IANZ accredited laboratory
- Following the Quality Management System, maintaining training records and working in ISO 17025 / GLP conditions
- Undertaking and ensuring excellent Quality Control and associated Quality Assurance tasks
- Calibration, maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment
- Participating in an ILCP proficiency program
- Interpretation and entering of results
- Providing technical advice and guidance to laboratory stakeholders
- Supporting strategic laboratory initiatives

- We are looking for a motivated individual who has relevant laboratory experience and operates with good aseptic technique. You will be passionate about microbiology and keen to work in a fast paced, engaged team.You will be keen and eager to go the extra mile, possess the ability to take a hands-on approach and be able to plan your own work. Importantly, you will be a team player who enjoys engaging and collaborating with a large cross functional team.
- **Attributes that will help you succeed in the role**:

- Tertiary qualification in food science/microbiology/technology or similar discipline or 2-3 years’ practical work experience in a dairy, food, pharmaceutical, IANZ, or ISO17025 registered laboratory.
- Great organisational skills and attention to detail in data entry, result analysis and reporting.
- Able to work both independently and collaboratively when required.
- Be actively involved in seeking continuous improvement in work practices and activities.
- Excellent communication skills, along with strong collaboration, communication, and stakeholder management abilities
