**Tēnei tūranga - About the Role**:
Our Principal Policy Advisors play a significant role in the regulation of work in New Zealand. You’ll be part of a team with a policy programme that directly impacts the lives of most New Zealanders. Our policy advice spans a range of Labour Market issues.

You will work closely with your team and our policy leaders to support a high performing branch that is also a great place to work.

We have Principal Policy Advisor vacancies in the following high performing policy teams:

- Income Insurance Policy team
- Skills and Employment Policy team
- Immigration Policy - Skills and Residence team

**About the Teams**:
**Income Insurance Policy team - **The team is the Government’s lead advisor on income insurance, and both the social and economic impact of job loss. The work programme includes first principles advice, regulation and strategic policy.

**Skills and Employment Policy team** - The team provides analysis and advice on cross-system labour market issues, including the overall effectiveness of the labour market and key opportunities to improve it, lifting skills development and improving labour market performance for underserved groups.

**Immigration Policy - Skills & Residence - **The team provides advice on the immigration rules about who can live in New Zealand temporarily or permanently. This includes supporting attraction of the skills New Zealand wants and enabling families to settle in New Zealand through the settings for work, partnership and student visas.

**Ngā pukenga me ngā wheako e hiahiatia ana -**:
We are looking for people who can lead major projects in their teams and the wider branch; diving in when required to provide intellectual impetus to key projects. Additionally, we are looking for people who will help to connect the dots between the work going on in our branch and across MBIE. The people we’re looking for will ideally possess the following attributes:

- a thorough understanding of the machinery of government
- extensive experience in public policy, ideally including working on primary legislation and regulation
- a good understanding of economic principles and the New Zealand economy
- familiarity with New Zealand’s legal framework and the principles of statutory interpretation
- the ability to shape and drive policy projects, lead small projects teams and work closely with our operational colleagues
- curiosity and a drive to learn.
- the legal right to live and work in New Zealand.

We are particularly keen to build our capability working in te ao Māori and analysing the impact of our work on Māori.

Needless to say, we are looking for a team player who will take an active role in building a positive team environment and work to develop the talent within your team and the wider branch.
