Community Development Advisor

We are looking for a professional and collaborative individual to be an ambassador for the Christchurch City Council, collaborating with community groups, elected members, government agencies as well as with other Christchurch City Council units. This role requires a high level of attention to detail, demonstrated experience in community development and experience working with a local authority or government/community organisation.
**About the role**:
We have an exciting opportunity within the Community Partnerships Team for someone with a proven history in community development and partnership development within the youth sector. We are looking for someone with energy and creativity, someone who can balance community expectations with organisational guidelines.
**Responsibilities**:
As a Community Development Advisor Youth, you will be responsible for:
- Liaising with the Christchurch Youth Council
- Co-ordinating Councils Youth Advisory group
- Encouraging education with the youth sector on Civics and the role of Local Government
- Supporting youth communities to find their own solutions to their own identified issues
- Encouraging social connectedness and community capacity
- Providing professional advice and recommendations to decision-makers regarding the use and management of resources.
- Taking a lead role in implementing the goals of the Council's Te Whitingia: Te Haumako Strengthening Communities Together Strategy as well as the Council's various Community Grants Schemes
- Supporting staff to build their own authentic relationships with Maori across Christchurch and Banks Peninsula
**Requirements**:
To meet the challenges of this role you will have exceptional communication skills with proven experience in building trust and maintaining positive relationships. You will be someone who can naturally recognise opportunities and develop practical and realistic responses to community issues. Ideally you will have:
- Minimum five years of experience in community development, engagement or advisory processes and practices
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience collaborating with Community Groups, Social Service Agencies, Government agencies and Stakeholder partners
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and in partnership with a range of entities such as iwi, community groups, other Territorial Local Authorities and Government department agencies
- The ability to adapt your communication style to various levels of understanding and remain confident when working in pressurised situations
