**The opportunity | Te Whiwhinga mahi**

The **Equity Communications Adviser **has a specific equity focus within the central communications team, supporting the University’s commitment to being a safe, inclusive and equitable place to work. The role will identify, write, edit and manage effective communications to University staff on a range of equity-related content, support and events.

The role sits in the Internal Communications team but will work closely with the wider central comms team and the Office of the PVC Equity, the Associate Director, Staff Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and the student-facing equity and SDS roles within Campus Life. The role’s primary responsibility is to ensure that all our staff are kept informed and engaged with University equity-related issues and stories.

Some of the responsibilities of this role include the following:

- Develop an annual communications plan to identify priorities, opportunities and issues.
- Research, write and edit compelling equity related staff stories that are uploaded to the University staff intranet and website.
- Keep Office of PVC Equity informed on relevant internal and external media issues.
- Support Office of PVC Equity, the internal communications team and other key stakeholders in creating communication plans and distributing messages to relevant audiences for various equity issues, awareness days and other campaigns.
- Ensure that University staff are well informed on equity-related policies, procedures and operations.
- Effectively work with various internal stakeholders to develop creative communications solutions to support new initiatives and service improvements.

This is a **permanent**, **part-time** (0.5FTE) position.

**About you | He kōrero mōu**
- Tertiary qualification in public relations or journalism or commensurate experience.
- At least three to five years in digital writing, editing and publishing.
- Previous work in public relations/communications.
- A basic understanding of and willingness to develop tikanga Māori and te reo Māori skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including writing for web publications.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy and thoroughness
- Excellent English with the ability to adhere to writing and style guides.
- Web content publishing skills.
- MS Office skills and web content publishing skills, experience in the use of CMS
