**Purpose of the role**

You will provide dedicated line management to our client's Lead Developers (people and technical leads), helping to nurture, motivate, and enable their success while supporting the Head of Software Engineering to deliver high-quality outcomes across all aspects of the engineering team.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Effective implementation of technical operational initiatives, as determined by Head of Software Engineering (from time to time)
- Implementing their policies, practices, and processes to allow smooth day-to-day operations within the engineering team
- Facilitating ongoing professional development and knowledge sharing through internal (via Head of Software Engineering and Lead Developers) and external means (through other training sources) in order to optimise the team’s capabilities and effectiveness
- Conducting team health checks and other processes to ensure good feedback is gathered and actioned to optimise for developer happiness, longevity, and sustainable practices within the Engineering team
- Problem-solving “on the fly” by proactively supporting individuals or teams to ensure performance meets expectations (as and where needed)

**Key Skills and Experience**
- Significant experience managing technical people in a modern, agile software product development environment
- Proven effectiveness at developing, growing and maintaining a strong engineering culture in a technical team
- Strong understanding and proven experience managing a diverse range of technical leaders to support their development and growth

**Performance Measures**
- Engineering teams are resourced effectively with a fair spread of workload
- Lead developers are engaged and performing effectively in their roles
- Managing to objective standards, and creating ongoing improvements in the skills, capacity, and processes for lead developers, and those reporting to them
- Clear and timely communication, and escalation, of any issues in software team capacity, capability, or morale, ensuring they are managed appropriately
- Engagement is strong across all levels of engineering developers with any issues identified and resolved to minimise impact on the team, group or wider business
