**Te** **kōwhiringa | The Opportunity**
We have a role for a Zero Harm Advisor to join the Downer team in Nelson. The role has responsibility for ensuring a consistent national approach to Zero Harm is maintained, through effective implementation, monitoring, and review of Zero Harm activities. We aim to continuously improve management and performance, whilst working collaboratively with and coaching all business partners, customers, and stakeholders.
Key result areas include:
- Support, educate and mentor operational teams to provide Zero Harm guidance.
- Moderation (data governance) of Zero Harm data ensuring compliance with documented processes.
- Incident and Injury Management
- Support the change process required for effective and sustainable Zero Harm improvements.
- Provide technical advice and support to operational teams in the identification, assessment, and control of workplace risks.
- Provide information on the requirements for compliance with the Downer Standard, community expectations and the relevant OHS/WHS and Environmental legal frameworks.
- Zero Harm monthly reporting, data analytics & strategic planning
- Coordinate and complete internal audits.
- Contribute to the preparation of information provided to the bid teams; by providing education on how to source detailed and accurate information.
- Other ad hoc requirements as they arise as assigned by your manager.

The following key attributes will be desired in this position:
**Educations & Qualifications**:
- NZQA (or equivalent) Safety qualifications min L3
- Quality/Safety Lead Internal Auditor
- Incident Investigation training
- Driver’s license (C class Australia / Class 1 NZ)
- Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Health & Safety or Certificate (L4) and the willingness to complete Diploma (desirable)
- Environment Management courses (desirable)
**Experience**:
- Experience as a Health, Safety, Environment practitioner within a similar industry.
- Exposure to high-risk industries, preferably construction or infrastructure.
- Knowledge of statutory provisions across relevant jurisdictions.
- Experience conducting audits and preparation of corrective actions and reports.
- High level of problem solving with the ability to professionally navigate complex issues.
- Ability to positively influence change and communicate effectively with multiple types of stakeholders.
- Knowledge of a Critical Risk framework using the bow-tie methodology (desirable).
- Preparation and delivery of Zero Harm Awareness or Training Programs (desirable).
**Knowledge & Competencies**:
- Ability to work under broad direction, independently, and as part of a high performing team.
- Demonstrates an understanding of Health, Safety & Environment theoretical and technical concepts.
- Applies critical thinking and creativity to continuously improve current practices and propose innovations.
- Effectively gathers and analyses information, communicates effectively with stakeholders and shows initiative to problem solve.
- Builds internal and external stakeholder relationships to positively influence change and continuous improvement.
- Considers the views and input of others to effectively inform improvements required and areas of focus of our ZH activities.
- Applies communication and engagement skills to initiative and support proactive ZH improvements.
- Applies mentoring and coaching skills to develop capability of operational personnel.
- Facilitation of workshops, training sessions, toolbox meetings etc. and ability to present to various stakeholder groups.
- Personnel planning and organisational skills to meet business objectives and timelines.
- Ability to manage multiple and competing tasks concurrently.
- Intermediate to advanced computer skills, knowledge of MS Office/Team and ZH systems.
