Ko tōu ake mahi - What You'll Do
As a Principal Advisor you will be instrumental in ensuring the seamless integration of new and evolving policies into the operations of our Regulated Products team. You will be to providing valuable insights and strategic planning for the incorporation of new and changing policies into the team's work. You will develop innovative regulatory strategies that support the team's stewardship of the sector, fostering an environment of continuous improvement and ensuring the delivery of high-quality regulatory outcomes. You will also prepare advice and updates to the Minister (via the Regulated Products Manager) as well as preparing guidelines to support the day-to-day operation of the Regulated Products Team.
In addition to your strategic role, you will also serve as the representative for the Vaping Regulatory Authority (VRA) and Tobacco Regulatory Authority (TRA) within the broader regulatory context. This will involve liaising and collaborating with regulators from other jurisdictions, gaining valuable knowledge about international best practices, and effectively introducing them to benefit the healthcare landscape in New Zealand.
As a senior member of the team, you will have the opportunity to mentor and guide junior staff members, sharing your expertise and helping to shape the next generation of regulatory professionals. By providing guidance and support, you will contribute to their professional development and help them excel in their roles.

Ko ngā pukenga ōu - What You'll Bring
- Prepare advice and draft documents, guidelines, etc. to support the day-to-day operation of the Regulated Products team
- Provide leadership for projects and areas, working with others to ensure all work is well planned, using work planning tools and methods which includes taking strategic and tactical approaches to achieve results through high quality regulatory advice
- Contribute to the administration of regulatory obligations and commitments, including implementation, monitoring, reporting and reviewing
- Play a critical role in developing and maintaining the Ministry's regulatory capability by mentoring and supervising less experienced staff through the policy development process
- Take ownership; be accountable and recognised by the Ministry with instilled trust and confidence as a senior practitioner of regulatory advice
