Make the tough decisions about when to put our Assets back into service
- Enjoy both autonomy and support within a skilled, collaborative team
- Interesting and stimulating work with no two days the same

**Be part of an organisation that is driving sustainability and significant positive change for Aotearoa**

The decarbonisation of New Zealand's economy sits at the core of Transpower's strategy. We have a critical role to play in enabling New Zealand's move towards electrification and a net-zero carbon future.

**About the team**

Transpower's Grid Delivery division is tasked with ensuring our grid assets continue to deliver electricity well to New Zealand.

The Primary Assets team, within Grid Delivery, provides expert support in identifying and resolving asset issues and failures - including responses to power system events 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They also deliver a range of technical investigations and define and deliver continuous improvement recommendations.

The team continues to work on SF6 emission reduction initiatives, with an ambitious goal of achieving a 60% reduction of our controllable Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 2030 and achieve a net zero grid by 2050.

**About the opportunity**

We are seeking an Electrical Engineer to join our Primary Assets - Operational Engineering team in Wellington.

In this role you'll provide engineering support on primary assets across the Transpower fleet and use your technical expertise to provide technical solutions and undertake incident diagnostics on assets. You'll be responsible for ensuring our approach to condition assessment, maintenance and replacement of grid assets is sound to help us meet our asset performance objectives.

Naturally curious, you'll conduct thorough investigations and analysis into the root cause of station faults and asset failure, and lead change and improvement initiatives that minimise future asset risk.

Communicating across our business and with clients, consultants, and contractors, you'll take a customer-centric approach and ensure our grid station assets are optimised and fit for purpose.

**You'll also**:

- Provide technical advice on asset capability to various internal and external audiences
- Develop asset contingency plans for critical assets
- Define and deliver improvement recommendations to our assets
- Contribute to asset strategies, plans, designs, purchase, construction, and installation standards and specifications

Transpower has a large fleet of SF6-filled transmission equipment, and you will spend a significant majority of your time working on our reduction initiatives with the support of our very experienced team. The remainder of your time will be split equally between day-to-day operational engineering support to the wider business and service providers and reliability engineering.

**To be considered, your CV and covering letter will demonstrate**:

- Relevant Engineering tertiary qualification, or alternatively, substantial industry experience
- Sound knowledge of power system operational processes and tools (essential)
- At least 3+ years of engineering experience
- Knowledge of electricity regulations and codes
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills - you can present complex technical issues clearly to a non-technical audience
- The ability to develop and maintain effective and collaborative relationships
- Proven ability to adapt to changing industry requirements and challenges
- A current, full New Zealand driver licence

**Highly desirable, but not essential**:

- Chartered Professional Engineer or equivalent, or substantial progress towards this
- Experience in construction or design of assets
- Experience working in an MV/HV utility, and experience in MV/HV circuit breaker
- Experience in SF6 management and emission reduction
- Experience in reliability engineering
- Understand the reliability centred maintenance concept

**Join us at Transpower**

Aotearoa is powered by the people who work here. Every home, every marae, every electric vehicle, every hospital relies on the electricity we manage and deliver.

**Next steps**

**Existing eligibility to work in New Zealand is preferred.**
