**He angitūtanga: The opportunity**
Auckland Council’s Emergency Management team has an opportunity for a permanent full-time **Senior Iwi Māori Resilience Advisor **to join this dedicated and passionate team. Reporting to the Head of Planning, and working closely with the Principal Iwi Māori Resilience Advisor, this role is critical for leading the development & delivery of a disaster resilience programme supporting iwi, Māori and marae.
This role also has a response component in the event of an emergency. You will support the development of the Iwi/ Māori (Coordinated Incident Management) response function and be an alternate and/ or a sub-function in an emergency response.
You could expect to:
- Deliver community engagement workshops and outreach activities that support our iwi, Māori and marae
- Support the delivery of our Kia Rite Kia Mau primary school emergency education programme together with the Senior Youth and Education Advisor.
- Grow hazard understanding, disaster preparedness, social connection, and community-led emergency response.
- Establish and maintain effective and collaborative relationships with iwi, hapū, Māori organisations, and Māori communities.
- Support the engagement and development of Auckland Council Emergency Support Staff (ACES) to support the Iwi/ Māori (Coordinated Incident Management) response function and associated sub-functions Help develop Māori responsiveness and embed tikanga practices within Auckland Emergency Management
**He kōrero mōu: About you**
You will bring a well-developed network and established relationships with our iwi, hapu, Māori organisations, and marae across Tamaki Makaurau. Your understanding of tikanga, mātauranga and kaupapa Māori principles will be deep-rooted.
Delivering challenging outcomes, excellent stakeholder engagement, competent decision-making, and sound judgement under pressure will feature in your skill set. You will bring the ability to build positive and harmonious relationships with our politicians, executives, and rangatira.
We are specifically looking for:
- Proficiency in Māori cultural frameworks, approaches, and Māori cultural competency.
- Te Reo and tikanga Māori knowledge and a high level of competency or fluency in Te Reo.
- Experience working in emergency management would be an advantage.
