**He angitūtanga: The opportunity**

Auckland Council’s Park & Community Facilities department has an opportunity for a Principal Ranger to lead the Western Regional Parks team. This is a leadership role situated in the Arataki visitor centre but on any given day you could work anywhere within the western parks or Auckland Council offices.

We are looking for someone to take the helm of a dedicated park ranger team which manages over 250 kilometres of walking tracks, pristine bushes, thriving native wildlife and rugged black sand surf beaches.

A major focus of this role is to provide strategic leadership for a committed and dedicated team of park rangers. You will champion culture by modelling high-performance behaviours, collaborate ways of working and providing innovative thinking for the purposes of achieving excellence in service delivery. You will be responsible for the delivery of the team’s operations programme and ensuring that programme delivery, effective planning and financial management are met. You will lead engagement with partners and stakeholders while supporting your direct reports with leadership and direction.

The successful applicant will also be part of the Regional Parks Leadership Team who focus on the strategic direction and operational delivery across the regional parks network.

This role requires experience in similar fields such as park/recreation management, lead management or natural relevant management roles.

You will have experience in leading a team, managing resources which have a significant impact on communities. To be successful in this role you will have a natural ability in relating to others at all levels of the organisation and be willing to lead.

We will be looking for specific experience with:

- Strong decision-making ability and understanding when a problem requires different approaches
- Demonstrated experience working in a complex political environment
- Strong management and business processes, including ability to plan and experience in managing budgets.
