Kaiurungi - Māori Active Communities Lead
5 days ago
We have an exciting new role, and we're looking for a dedicated and passionate team member to join us. This is an opportunity to forge a new pathway for the Recreation, Sports & Events Unit within Christchurch City Council.
You will be part of the Active Communities Team, that aims to break down barriers to participation in physical activity whether that is through sport or active recreation. You will be improving equity and health outcomes of Māori and other priority groups through the lens of physical activity.
The council has a growing network of facilities, with Parakiore coming on board next year, and you will be part of creating spaces that are welcoming to everyone. The Recreation, Sports and Events Unit helps people to feel good, healthy and happy every day - building strong hearts, strong whānau and strong communities.
**Te Arotahi Matu: The role**
As a Māori Active Communities Lead, you'll be culturally aware and walk alongside Māori to:
- Develop and foster sustainable, collaborative partnerships, that support change and empower Māori, vulnerable to inactivity, to adopt and maintain active lifestyles.
- Lead and implement initiatives, either in the community or within the unit, that aim to increase physical activity levels within higher risk populations of Māori.
- Provide a kaupapa Māori lens on other priority populations e.g. rangitahi, tāngata whaikaha, kaumātua, tamariki, and assist with the development and implementation of projects.
- Address health disparities and promote hauora by tailoring strategies to the cultural context and unique needs of Māori and other priority populations.
- Share knowledge and advice promoting awareness of resources, programmes and services, available to Māori and the community.
**About you**:
Ideally, you will have worked in a large kaupapa Māori organisation or a Māori advisory position and have already built strong network relationships across Ōtautahi.
You will have strong communication skills, as relationship building is a large part of this role.
To meet the challenges of this role, you will:
- Have a minimum of 5 years' experience in community development, engagement or advisory processes.
- Demonstrate full competence in Te Reo - verbal and written.
- A strong understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
- Hold a current full New Zealand driver's licence.
- Tertiary qualified or significant experience in relevant discipline.
- To view the position description, please click on the link at the foot of the page._
**Additional information**:
- Hours: Full time, 40 hours per week. Permanent.
- Salary: $85,015 - $94,461 per annum.
- Location: This role will be predominantly based at Pioneer Recreation & Sports Centre, 75 Lyttelton Street.
**What's in it for you?**
Working for the Christchurch City Council allows you to contribute directly to the community and make a positive impact on the lives of residents and visitors. You will also benefit from:
- Access to training programmes, workshops, and development opportunities
- Flexible working arrangements - adjustable start and finish times, option to purchase extra leave.
- Collaboration - exposure to wider areas of the organisation
- Benefits - a variety of benefits for Council staff from health schemes to retail discounts.
**_ Applications will be reviewed as they are received, and interviews may take place prior to the close date. This means we reserve the right to close a job ad before the advertised close date._
