Te Tūāpapa Kura Kāinga - The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) leads Aotearoa - New Zealand's housing and urban development work programme.

Mō te tūnga | About the role
Are you a Senior-level Advisor looking to lead policy and legislation for rental housing, housing quality, unit titles and retirement villages sectors? The work you could be doing includes the regulation of residential property managers, regulations clarifying methamphetamine regulation, a range of broader rental market issues or initial work on a review of legislation governing retirement villages. The work is really broad and very interesting
The role is in the Solutions Design and Implementation group, which designs the detailed policy, legislation and funding settings and tools needed to achieve our system priorities. Where HUD has an implementation role, the group will also be responsible for this, including setting up any new functions required.
This group also maintains and reviews legislation, regulation and settings for specific tools and products.
Our Senior Policy Advisors get the opportunity to develop their policy craft and leaderships skills in a supportive environment, leading policy projects, mentoring and coaching others, as well as engaging across HUD and with other agencies.

Ō wheako, ō pukenga | About you
As a policy professional you will be a critical thinker able to work on a range of complex and challenging issues and develop robust policy advice through a system wide lens. You should be comfortable leading policy work that achieves real tangible outcomes, under urgency, on often complex matters. You will be a confident communicator with experience working across agencies and with a range of stakeholders, senior leaders and Ministers.

**To succeed in this role you will have**:

- strong policy foundations, including excellent written and analytical skills and the ability to see the big picture
- experience in building strong relationships with key agencies and external stakeholders
- a proactive approach, and experience leading large and/or complex policy projects
- experience (and a high degree of comfort) dealing with ambiguity and changing context
- proven ability to communicate with influence
- ability to interpret evidence, quickly assimilate new information or areas of work and understand unfamiliar and complex issues.
- a relevant tertiary qualification.

This role naturally lends itself to someone with policy experience from a regulatory or legislative environment but this is not essential.

We have a stepped remuneration framework where salary movement happens though defined step increases within a role salary band. Appointment to a step within the salary range will depend on the experience and skills the person brings to the role which will be better known following a recruitment process including an interview. Salary $97,771 to $119,498 (step 15)
Salaries automatically move up a step on an annual basis.
