**Tēnei tūranga - About the role**:
We are looking for Policy Advisors to join the Employment Relations Policy Team in MBIE’s Workplace, Relations and Safety branch. The team develops advice and provides analysis on the employment relations system, including its core regulatory framework and settings. Our work is all about the relationship between employers and workers. It is often high profile, involves really interesting trade-offs, and is usually fast paced. Our team is supportive and close-knit.

We have a range of exciting opportunities in the team. You will be able to play a role in the areas that we are currently working on, or that are on the horizon, such as Fair Pay Agreements, bullying and harassment at work, addressing gender and ethnic pay gaps through pay transparency, and looking at our dispute resolution system.

The other teams in the Workplace Relations and Safety branch work on policy projects relating to international labour, health and safety, employment standards and accident compensation. We work in a collaborative environment to deliver the government’s priorities - with the wide variety of work across the branch there are often development opportunities to work with other teams on projects that will help you grow and build your experience and work towards your career goals.

We have a flat structure where you will be talking directly to Ministers and stakeholders about your work. Our team works closely with our operational counterparts, so you’ll get good experience at making sure our policies are well implemented.

We are looking for motivated people with some experience in solving problems and formulating high-quality policy advice.

**Ideally you will**:

- have a good base of experience in public policy as a Policy Advisor and/or transferrable skills from an advisory, legal or similar role
- have an understanding of the machinery of government and Te Tiriti o Waitangi
- be a logical thinker, problem solver and have a healthy level of curiosity
- bring knowledge of policy development disciplines and processes
- enjoy working on complex problems, generating ideas and coming up with solutions
- have the ability to build relationships with others and work collaboratively
- be able to work through ambiguity and deliver results.
