Help shape the future of Education
He mea tārai e mātou te mātauranga kia rangatira ai, kia mana taurite ai ōna huanga
We work to shape an education system that delivers equitable and excellent outcomes
At Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga | Ministry of Education, we work to provide services and support nationally, regionally and locally to the education sector, and in some cases, directly to ākonga and whānau.
We shape the policies, settings and performance of the education system for early learning, schooling and tertiary.
We are making significant changes to how we deliver our purpose.
**So that we**:
- Take practical action to give effect to te Tiriti o Waitangi.
- Give priority to regional and local voice.
- Deliver greater responsiveness, accessibility and integrated services and support.
- Improve feedback loops and information flows.
Our organisation is made up of talented and committed people around Aotearoa, from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures. While we work in different groups and on different things, we all strive every day to make the biggest difference we can for our ākonga in our education system.
Mō tēnei tūranga | About this role
While the Portfolio Lead Te Reo Māori will be part of Te Uepū Reo Māori, this position will take a cross-Te Poutāhū leadership role in co-designing, with all groups, how te reo Māori me ōna tikanga will be incorporated, in an authentic manner, into and across the Te Poutāhū Work Programme, contributing to achieving quality expectations and outcomes for ākonga across the early learning and schooling system, including Māori medium and kaupapa Māori education pathways.
In collaboration with the Te Poutāhū General Managers, the Portfolio Lead Te Reo Māori will also be responsible for establishing ongoing monitoring and review processes ensuring the inclusion of te reo Māori remains current and positioned appropriately across the priority work programme.
**In this role you will**:
- Work in partnership with the Portfolio Lead Mātauranga Māori to ensure a consistent and considered approach to all Te Poutāhū priorities is administered through these roles.
- Develop a plan to guide how the national curricula will incorporate and support all learners learning te reo Māori (as a language) and those learning through te reo Māori. The plan will consider kōhanga reo through to wharekura and early learning through to secondary and will:
- acknowledge iwi as the kaitiaki of te reo ā-iwi.
- give clarity of how the plan contributes towards the revitalization of te reo Māori.
- outline how we will work in partnership and be service oriented internally and externally.
- be evidence-based and will align with the Te Poutāhū Strategic Plan and specific programme outcomes.
- Align all the work progressed to Tau Mai te Reo, as part of the education sector's contribution to the Maihi Karauna, the whole-of-government Māori Language Strategy.
- Provide guidance and insight into other strategic priorities focusing on te reo Māori (i.e., Workforce Strategy / Funding review etc.)
Please note there is further information in the attached Job Description.
**We also offer**:
- Flexible working arrangements where everyone feels valued & supported
- The ability to purchase extra days leave
- A range of employee network groups
- An inclusive environment that encourages your personal cultural competency journey
- Development and learning, including mentorship programmes and internal secondments
- Wellness initiatives to support your overall health and wellbeing
Mōhou ake | About you
We are looking for someone with the right skills and background to hit the ground running on designing and developing the integrated change and implementation plan.
**You will also demonstrate**:
- Experience in driving organisational change aligned to a shared vision and strategic priorities that delivers intended outcomes.
- Using Māori bodies of knowledge to inform and improve the design of curriculum, including the championing of Mana Ōrite mō te mātauranga Māori.
- Working in complex organisations, with robust knowledge and understanding of education contexts at a practical level.
- Experienced programme and/or project management practitioner either via learned experience as a Programme or Project Manager or in an advisory capacity.
- Strong inclusive leadership skills showing commitment to supporting others in growth, embracing diversity and inclusion in a safe environment.
You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public sector.
