Mō te tūnga | About the role
The NZDF Force Health Organisation delivers integrated primary and occupational health care to the New Zealand Defence Force. Delivered through a range of capabilities across New Zealand including health centres, dental centres, and fitness and rehab facilities.
As the health services manager of the Force Health Organisation, you will provide strong leadership and management oversight of the Force Health Organisation. Your health service management skills will ensure that health services are delivered with a high focus on quality, effectiveness, efficiency and safety for clinicians and military personnel in the domestic (non-deployed) environment. You will build effective partnerships with key stakeholders and collaborate with other health leaders within the NZDF.
**You will be required to**:
- Develop and lead the Force Health leadership team to manage culture, people, resources, infrastructure and outputs.
- Establish and leverage collaborative relationships across NZDF.
- Advocate for the organisation's needs through provision of health service assurance and advice at the NZDF health system level.
- Maintain and analyse robust risk management, compliance, quality and assurance systems.
- Provide effective leadership and role modelling to ensure that the team has the necessary level of knowledge, skill and empowerment required to deliver high quality services.
- Lead the development and implementation of the Force Health annual business plans resulting in best practice sustainable services that optimally serve the NZDF population.
- Build and maintain the reputation and profile of Force Health across the NZDF as a best practice health, wellbeing and physical performance provider, inspiring confidence in the quality of the services being delivered to NZDF uniformed personnel.
- Lead the provision of Dental, Medical, and Physical Performance (PPS) health base operations for Army, Navy and Air Force across New Zealand.
You will work primarily out of Trentham Military Camp. This role requires occasional domestic travel as you will be leading a team who are geographically dispersed across NZDF's Camps and Bases. You will need to have a Class 1 Full Driver's Licence.
Once you are trained and entrenched in the role, you will have the option to establish a flexible working arrangement including working from home one-two days a week.
**Please Note**: The formal title for this role within the NZDF is National Manager Force Health Organisation.
Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and Experience
We are seeking a person with significant experience in three main areas:
- Broad experience working in a health service delivery environment at management level, preferably in primary health care sector.
- Significant management experience that has involved direct oversight and responsibility for large teams of personnel, and associated management of budgets.
- Experience in successfully leading managers in a health system context, preferably across geographically dispersed locations.
Underpinning the knowledge and skills you have obtained by working within the areas mentioned above is your sound knowledge of New Zealand Health legislation and regulatory compliance. You have a strategic orientation that enables you to identify and address long-term issues and opportunities while taking into account organisation-wide complexities when defining or implementing new strategies.
Being an exceptional communicator with confident interpersonal skills, you can build strategic alliances across a diverse range of stakeholders. These attributes also ensure you are a deeply effective leader of people. You do this by encouraging self-development and personnel wellbeing, by coaching and maintaining cross-team engagement.
Problem solving is at the core of your role, with your proven ability to analyse and solve complex problems while thinking systemically in an environment of constant change. Having an organisation-wide and ‘systems thinking' perspective enables you to keep looking up and out, maintaining that critical wider overview while mapping out the path to good for your team.
In terms of qualifications, we are preferably seeking a degree (ideally postgraduate) in a health related field, together with strong health system management experience, preferably in the primary health care sector, with relevant leadership training and experience added into the mix.
