**Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity**

The National Public Health Service (NPHS) within Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora, work towards Pae Ora (healthy futures) for all by engaging with the wider determinants that impact people's health, focusing on oranga/wellbeing, prevention, and population-level intervention. We are connected across boundaries to deliver public health services that are nationally planned, regionally delivered and locally tailored.

We have a great opportunity to join our team as a **Public Health Senior Communications Advisor.** This is a new permanent and fulltime role within the Te Ikaroa, Central Region communications team.

The primary organisational impact of the position is to provide of high-quality communications advice helping to achieve the priorities of Health NZ's Pae Ora by delivering locally on national priorities. This will include demonstrating an in-depth understanding of the wider determinants of health and a focus on reducing inequities.

**Mōu | About you**

You are someone with at least four years' working in public health, health or related sectors with a relevant Tertiary qualification in communications, journalism, marketing public relations or media management.

You are able to understand (and translate into plain language) technical and clinical information and have proven expertise managing media enquiries and writing content for various channels and platforms.

- You will demonstrate mature communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to write and present effectively, and to develop, unify and maintain strong internal and external relationships essential for achieving sustainable outcomes.
- While a lot of work will be independent, you will be a team player to ensure quality and consistency is maintained.
- You will have the ability to identify business / project requirements, develop or contribute to strategies and plans, and prioritise your workload.
- You will demonstrate an openness to the views of others, and an ability to model an agile approach that creates a culture where individuals at all levels bring their ideas and issues for constructive debate and finding improved ways forward.
- You will demonstrate an understanding of organisational risk and compliance, legal and regulatory requirements regarding relevant regulations and standards in New Zealand, to ensure compliance with these requirements.
- You will demonstrate a willingness to build constructive and effective relationships with stakeholders to build a sound understanding of their operational environment and context.
- A willingness to travel as required.
