**Tēnei tūranga - About the role**:
The Government Property Group (GPG) is the functional leader for the Government’s office accommodation portfolio across New Zealand, providing leadership and policy support to 72 government agencies.

The key deliverable of this new role is to lead complex property policy work with significant sensitivity and risk, providing authoritative and frank policy advice that recognises the choices and constraints Ministers face, and which anticipates needs, and predicts and plans for potentially controversial or politically sensitive issues.

Reporting to the General Manager of GPG, the Policy Director is a trusted leader and advisor who uses their experience and judgement to shape the future property policy agenda and priorities, identify work programme gaps and delivery risks, and ensures effective and timely interventions.

New Zealand Government Property is undergoing considerable change, revising the government’s property strategy and planning for future growth, and this role is a great opportunity to influence how Government accommodation is placed for the future.

**The successful applicant will**:

- lead an All-of-Government strategic policy agenda providing high quality advice and counsel on government property policy approaches.
- lead the design and implementation of the GPG policy approach and framework.
- bring intellectual thought leadership, present new ideas and identify opportunities for improvement.

Ngā pukenga me ngā wheako e hiahiatia ana - Skills and experience required:

- Extensive experience in Government policy development and anticipating Ministerial needs.
- Considerable experience shaping policy agendas and priorities, identifying work programme gaps and delivery risks, while ensuring timely intervention.
- Can readily grasp and synthesise the ideas, analysis and advice produced by others.
- Sound knowledge and understanding of Government’s property accommodation environment, and of the machinery of Government.
- High degree of political nous and sensitivity with the intellectual capability and judgement to manage multiple complex projects concurrently.
- Demonstratable experience in the mastery of public policy processes and the public policy production process.
- Proven ability to lead and develop teams and create and deliver solutions to complex problems.
- Excellent relationship management skills - able to establish, build, maintain and own effective working relationships with senior leaders and strategically critical stakeholders.
- Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills. Able to communicate complex issues clearly and concisely, adapt style to suit the needs of the audience and influence others to accept ideas/strategies.
- Must have legal right to live and work in NZ.
