**Mō te tūnga | About the role**

The purpose of Te Tari Pūreke, Firearms Safety Authority business unit is to enable New Zealand to be a world leader in arms safety through an effective regulatory and administrative approach to the Arms Act and Arms Regulations. Established to lead, operate, and develop investment in modernisation of the firearms system, which will result in a more efficient and effective risk-based licensing system, and shall improve public confidence in the firearms licensing system. The modernisation of the Arms Regulatory System will take every opportunity to prevent harm through transparent, high quality, consistent, legislatively correct, and effective regulatory activities. This will also cover world leading administration, education, and promotion of compliance within the provisions of the Arms Act and Arms Regulations.

To support the delivery of these outcomes you will provide high quality advice, analysis, and recommendations to enable a greater understanding of the programme of work for the operations team. By analysing data, looking for trends, exceptions, and unexpected results and to share these insights to varying levels within the organisation in understandable (non-data heavy) ways will support the Performance and Insights Lead to develop and implement performance and quality assurance measures and frameworks for the operations team enabling them to meet desired regulatory outcomes. You will be able to think critically about the data, providing contextual insight and strategic thinking that both operational team and leadership teams can understand and implement.

You will contribute to providing high-quality analysis, in-depth insights, recommendations and advice on the ongoing development, support, maintenance, and improvements in the delivery of firearms regulatory services. You will work to establish and maintain strong and sustainable relationship within the team and with key stakeholders.

**Takohanga Matua | Key Accountabilities**:

- Proactively identify factors influencing operational performance and information that will assist leadership teams and to enables better decision making and operational performance outcomes.
- Provide data and advice for the programme of work and the implementation of changes to process practice and quality standards in firearms licensing.
- Maintain up to date and easily accessible records of performance data, reports and processes ensuring it is applied consistently to ensure conclusions drawn are accurate.
- Proactively investigate operational performance issues or impacts and make recommendations for possible management strategies or improvement opportunities.
- Support the Performance and Insights Lead with the development and implementation of a performance and quality assurance framework.
- Contribute to the development of performance measures for the operational teams.

**Qualifications / Requirements**:

- Applicants need to be New Zealand Permanent Residents
- Relevant tertiary qualification containing significant component of statistics or other mathematical disciplines, or equivalent experience preferred.
- A strong working knowledge of Excel, NIA, Business Objects and SAS would be advantageous

**Skills**:

- Experience in analysing data to identify trends, impacts and linkages, developing and delivering recommendations for improvement.
- Experience presenting both verbally and in writing performance and quality assurance reporting to senior leaders in a succinct way for decision making.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate technical analysis in a non-technical manner readily understood by operational areas.
- Highly effective communication skills with the ability to be flexible, adaptable, and pragmatic with solutioning.

Skills testing may be used at interview to assess data analysis and critical thinking abilities.
