Mō te tūnga | About the role
The purpose of Te Tari Pūreke, Firearms Safety Authority business unit is to enable New Zealand to be a world leader in arms safety through an effective regulatory and administrative approach to the Arms Act and Arms Regulations. Established to lead, operate, and develop investment in modernisation of the firearms system, which will result in a more efficient and effective risk-based licensing system, and shall improve public confidence in the firearms licensing system. The modernisation of the Arms Regulatory System will take every opportunity to prevent harm through transparent, high quality, consistent, legislatively correct, and effective regulatory activities. This will also cover world leading administration, education, and promotion of compliance within the provisions of the Arms Act and Arms Regulations.
To support the delivery of these outcomes you will provide analysis, advice and develop business intelligence capability. Specifically, by creating, analysing, and reporting quantitative information relating to district, service centre and national performance. You will be able to think critically about the data, adding value by appropriately conveying context and related factors to provide decision makers with insight and foresight.

As a Senior Analyst you will analyse data, look for trends, exceptions, and unexpected results and share these insights to varying levels within the organisation in understandable (non-data heavy) ways. You will support the Performance and Insights Lead to develop and implement performance and quality assurance measures and frameworks for the operations team enabling them to meet desired regulatory outcomes. You will provide high-quality analysis, in-depth insights, recommendations and advice on the ongoing development, support, maintenance, and improvements in the delivery of firearms regulatory services. You will work to establish and maintain strong and sustainable relationships within the team and with key stakeholders.

**Takohanga Matua | Key Accountabilities - Analyst**:

- Develop and maintain high quality ‘intelligent’ data sets that mitigate data quality limitations in source systems, and thereby enable effective and trusted statistical information, performance measures, and reporting.
- Ensure reporting is timely, robust and meets the business need.
- Assess customer needs, identify issues and implement appropriate strategies. Ensure all service requests and complaints are met with a professional, customer focused and timely response.
- Work collaboratively and effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team within a dynamic environment.

**Takohanga Matua | Key Accountabilities - Senior Analyst**:

- Proactively identify factors influencing operational performance and information that will assist leadership teams and enable better decision making and operational performance outcomes.
- Provide data and advice for the programme of work and the implementation of changes to process practice and quality standards in firearms licensing.
- Maintain up to date and easily accessible records of performance data, reports and processes ensuring factors are applied consistently to ensure conclusions drawn are accurate.
- Proactively investigate operational performance issues or impacts and make recommendations for possible management strategies or improvement opportunities.
- Support the Performance and Insights Lead with the development and implementation of a performance and quality assurance framework.
- Contribute to the development of performance measures for operational teams.

**Qualifications / Requirements**:

- Applicants need to be New Zealand Permanent Residents.
- Relevant tertiary qualification containing significant component of statistics or other mathematical disciplines, or equivalent experience preferred.
- A strong working knowledge of Excel, NIA, Business Objects and SaaS would be advantageous.
