Join the Milford Opportunities Project (MOP) in our innovative and future-focused mission to address visitor pressures on Milford Sound Piopiotahi, and create a more environmentally sustainable, culturally responsive, world-class visitor experience. Be a part of cross-entity/sector collaboration between iwi, commercial, local, and central government.
As a Senior Policy Advisor, you will provide high-quality policy analysis and advice to our senior leaders and the independent MOP Unit to support the successful assessment of the MOP Masterplan. There are complex and exciting policy issues to be tackled across DOC's regulatory and concession functions, visitor pressures, access fees and charging, and governance arrangements. You will be able to dive into some of the biggest pressures facing conservation in New Zealand, and to set a model example for how we tackle these challenges across the country.
Working across broad stakeholder groups, you will be a trusted and solution-oriented thought-leader that enjoys delivering as part of a team to ensure the effective delivery of the workplan.

If you have the following attributes, we are keen to hear from you:

- Strong policy analysis skills and machinery of government experience.
- Demonstrated track-record in providing logical, analytical and well-reasoned advice across complex policy matters or large-scale programmes of work.
- Proven experience leading complex project-based policy work in a pragmatic and agile way.
- Well-developed stakeholder management skills including experience building and maintaining relationships with internal and external partners.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to tailor advice and analysis to the needs of others.
- Strong critical thinking capability - adept at identifying critical issues and risks when undertaking policy analysis and provides pragmatic solutions to problems.
- Ability to mentor and manaaki other colleagues in their work.
- Cultural awareness - understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi including the willingness to engage in Te Ao Māori concepts and/or understanding tikanga Māori.
- Ideally experience in regulatory policy or in economics.

Mō te tīma | About the team
The Strategy and Policy Group provides strategic direction and thought leadership for DOC and for the conservation system. The Policy Directorate is responsible for internal statutory policy development, representing DOC in the development of policy by other government agencies and providing a key link between DOC and the Minister's office, and other policy agencies.
The Tourism and Economic Development (TED) Policy Team are an exciting and dynamic team responsible for supporting the Minister of Conservation with sharp, incisive advice to tackle some of DOC's most pressing conservation challenges.
