Team Leader Land Management

**About the role**

This role will lead the land management team and contribute to the sustainable management of natural resources by contributing to policy development and implementing methods - including education, advocacy, projects and programmes in the fields of soil conservation, water quality, biodiversity, riparian management and land use capability.

Reporting to the Integrated Catchments Manager your role will be field, and office based, working in the greater team of 4 people.

You’ll recognise the importance of the role as a Treaty partner and understand how that underpins Gisborne District Council’s work.

**Duties Include**:

- Providing direction and oversight to the land management team
- Ensuring a coordinated approach with catchment groups, landowners, mana whenua, iwi and industry
- Leading the establishment of a coordinated approach to Te Mana o te Wai by developing and actioning land surveys and erosion control plans for inclusion in Freshwater Farm Plans and eventually wider Integrated Farm Plans that are consistent with regional and national requirements
- Leading land management and catchment based intervention programmes

**Skills & experience**
- A tertiary degree or post graduate diploma in Environmental Science, Biological Sciences, Geography, Geology or appropriate science discipline with at least 5 years relevant workplace experience
- Strong leadership and management skills
- Advanced communication
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively establish and build on internal and external working relationships
- Prior experience and knowledge engaging and working with hapū/iwi, Māori and communities across the region
