About the role

The Authority takes every opportunity to prevent harm through transparent, consistent, timely and efficient administration; as well as education and promotion of compliance with the provisions of the Arms Act. We earn trust and confidence by working together; in partnership with other Policing groups; with the firearms community; the wider New Zealand public and other agencies and organisations to achieve collective impact.

As an Arms Officer working within the Waikato Firearms Team you will take every opportunity to ensure that this is achieved.

**Key Accountabilities**:

- You will process and manage tasks aligned to firearms licensing.
- Alternatively, if the applicant is found not to be ‘fit and proper’, then you will also prepare files for further review with the intention of refusal.
- As required you will undertake interviews, security checks and audit activities within Waikato district.
- You will maintain relationships with the firearms community to support the Firearms Safety Authority’s regulatory obligations.
- As required you will manage compliance activities within the district.
- Being accountable for our performance and taking responsibility for our contribution and development.

We’re looking for people with the ability to develop a sound understanding of the Arms Act in order to provide the highest level of knowledge for the firearms community and other interested groups. You will need to have basic Microsoft Office competencies. Prior firearms knowledge would be advantageous. Training will be provided.

This role is set at Individual Contributor level, this means your key purpose is “to deliver or enable others to deliver Our Business”.
