Te whiwhinga mahi/The Opportunity
You will be responsible for both leading and supporting the Ministry's engagement with iwi and Māori organisations for the purposes of identifying and facilitating opportunities to work in partnership to improve justice and wellbeing outcomes for whānau Māori.
As the Principal Advisor you will provide advice on issues of strategic and operational importance to the Ministry to give effect to our commitment to honouring our responsibilities to Māori. You will work with other business units across the Ministry, and with other government agencies to ensure a cohesive approach to engaging and partnering opportunities with iwi/Māori.

**To be successful in the role, you will**:

- Have a tertiary degree in a relevant field or equivalent knowledge, skills and experience
- Have excellent relationship management skills and be experienced in communicating with a wide range of audiences on a range of complex issues
- Have strong ability to communicate information clearly and concisely (both in oral and written format) appropriate to the target audience
- Have experience in working with iwi and Māori organisations and understanding of tirohanga Māori and Māori world views - A high level of proficiency in te reo Māori me ōna tikanga is essential

An interest in justice system issues or knowledge of the justice sector would be an advantage but is not essential.

Strategic Relationships and Engagement is responsible for providing leadership and guidance across the Ministry on developing and maintaining effective, enduring and meaningful relationships with Iwi/Māori, to ensure that the Ministry delivers on its Te Tiriti obligations, partners with iwi Māori to deliver services, and improves justice outcomes for whānau, hapū and iwi. The team is also responsible for monitoring and reporting on the Ministry's Treaty settlement commitments, and for managing relationships and contracts with Whakaorangia te Mana Tangata service providers in three sites (Kaitaia, Kaikohe and Gisborne).

Utu ā-tau/Salary
The appointing salary for this role is $124,397 to $173,973 based on skills and experience.
