Te Aho o Te Kura Pounamu (Te Kura) is New Zealand's largest school with a roll of up to 24,000 ākonga (students) at any point of time. We provide personalised and authentic learning programmes through distance education from early childhood to NCEA Level 3, including to young adult and adult learners. This year we celebrate 100 years of educating more than 1.5 million young New Zealanders. Te Kura has been called on over the years to supplement learning for New Zealand children during major public health crises, from polio and influenza epidemics to the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as providing support to ākonga after the Christchurch earthquakes.

**Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this position**:
This is a newly established position within the Human Resources team and we are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic, Senior Health, Safety and Wellness Advisor to oversee and drive Te Kura's health, safety and wellbeing strategy and practices.
This is an exciting opportunity to be a key player in developing our people strategy in line with the organisational strategy and modern best practice.
Some key responsibilities of this role include:
- Building strong relationships and partner with key stakeholders
- In conjunction with stakeholders, review Te Kura's current approach to health, safety, and wellbeing to ensure that we are delivering the best outcomes for our kaimahi (staff) and ākonga
- Partner with other wāhanga (functions) as we look to define and develop our wellbeing approach
- Develop or provide advice and input into health, safety, and wellbeing initiatives in line with strategy
- Understand and analyse key risks at Te Kura and ensure appropriate mitigations are in place
- Provide support and advice when kaimahi return to work following injury or illness
**Ko koe tēnei | About you**:
The role requires you to be able to thrive in a busy environment, show initiative, have excellent communication skills and be self-motivated. You will have:
- A desire to work in a close-knit team that supports one another to deliver a range of HR initiatives
- Experience in managing health, safety, and wellbeing and the associated functions in a complex environment. Ideally this would be in an organisation that is geographically spread
- Knowledge and experience in delivering health and safety policy, procedures and systems
- Experience and understanding of the importance and use of data and reporting within a health and safety framework
- An excellent understanding of relevant health and safety legislation, and familiar with modern wellbeing strategies
