Our Airline Strategy team is a small but extremely knowledgeable and professional team who are responsible for defining the overall direction of Air New Zealand’s network and corporate strategy. Together with colleagues from around the business, the Airline Strategy team is responsible for defining key aspects of the airline’s future strategic goals. The role The opportunity has arisen for an Airline Strategy Specialist to join the team, playing a key role in strategic initiatives, including the evaluation of market opportunities, new routes and enhancements to existing routes. You will also be a critical player in the annual long-term planning cycle, working closely with colleagues from across the business to define long term outlook and ambition. A confident personality and strategic thinker, the ideal candidate will be comfortable with translating data into meaningful insights, commercially savvy and be a confident communicator. Key responsibilities Drive data analysis and insights to inform opportunities for growth on existing markets and new market opportunities. Develop business cases to support changes to existing routes, potential new routes and fleet growth. Monitor and analyse competitor activity, deciphering implications for our network (where and how we fly, both domestically and internationally). Look out for key market trends, highlighting implications and impact for the future of Air New Zealand. Lean into ad‑hoc strategic analysis related to the flying network. Engage with key stakeholder groups to balance and calibrate different business needs to optimise the performance of new and existing routes. Use influencing and communication skills, together with expertise in financial & economic analysis, to gain senior stakeholder support for key strategic decisions. Support other parts of the airline in discussions and engagement with airports and OEMs on matters that may influence the future design of our network and fleet. About you Expert user in Excel and Power Point (crucial to the role and will be assessed throughout the recruitment process). Has the ability to combine strategic understanding and analytical skills with long‑term thinking and understanding of strategic imperatives. Strong commercial acumen, intellect, and professionalism, who is a valued advisor and trusted partner at all levels of the business. Tertiary qualified in Business, Finance, Engineering, or similar.
