The Department of General Practice and Rural Health is an academic unit within the Otago Medical School – Dunedin Campus. It was the first university department of general practice in New Zealand and is one of the oldest in the world.
Staff in this department come from a wide variety of disciplines and are involved in teaching and research in the fields of general practice and primary care. We teach undergraduate medical students and have an active postgraduate programme which offers diploma, master's, and PhD opportunities.
The geographically distributed Centre for Rural Health sits within the Department of General Practice and Rural Health. RHACA (Rural Health Academic Centre Ashburton) is an important hub within the Centre for Rural Health and enjoys strong support from the Ashburton community.
The role/Te mahiWe are seeking to appoint a Lecturer in rural nursing/allied health within RHACA. The main objectives of this role are to explore and establish rural nursing and allied health postgraduate pathways, to contribute to the RHACA research programme and postgraduate education delivered at the RHACA site in Ashburton.
This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of a great team and play a key role in engaging with external stakeholders and develop proposal(s) for rural postgraduate pathways.
You will also support teaching of residential workshops, and postgraduate teaching based at the RHACA site, including the development of new programmes.
Should a suitable candidate wish to move to Ashburton with the intention of combining this academic role with an appropriate clinical role, there are various relevant local health service providers in the area.
Skills And Experience/Kā Pūkeka Me Kā WheakoThe ideal candidate for this role will be:
- A registered nurse or allied health professional.
- In active clinical practice preferably in Ashburton Hospital or Ashburton community.
- Experienced, preferably including leadership, in the rural clinical context.
- A postgraduate qualification or experience in postgraduate teaching or research is desirable.
- Skilled in communication and able to develop collaborations.
- Able to work independently in the rural context.
- Able to travel when necessary.
This is a part-time (0.4 FTE) position, available to start immediately for a fixed term until 30 June 2027.
This is a part-time Lecturer role in either nursing or allied health, and we welcome applications from both groups. Depending on the suitability of the applicants, the role may be offered to a single candidate (either a nurse or an allied health professional), or it may be divided into two 0.2 FTE positions - one for nursing and one for allied health.
The salary scale for this role is $94,084 to $111,056 per annum (pro-rata).
