The role

We're on the lookout for an exceptional and energetic Registered Nurse to join our Orthopaedic Operating Theatre team as a Clinical Nurse Coordinator at Waikato Hospital. This full-time, Monday to Friday, permanent position offers you the chance to be part of an innovative, high-impact environment that will elevate your career to new heights

As one of the region's leading trauma centres, Waikato Hospital's Orthopaedic Theatres provides life-saving care to both emergency and planned care patients – including those flown in from all over Te Manawataki. Key responsibilities of the role:

  • Leadership and co-ordination of orthopaedic surgery within the department
  • Mentor and develop expertise of others in the operating theatre environment
  • Communicate effectively and build professional relationships within the multidisciplinary team
  • Proactively address challenges and solve complex situations, often by making quick decisions under pressure
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives
  • Lead and participate in audits and evaluations

Waikato Hospital, located in Hamilton, New Zealand, is a major regional hospital and a leading tertiary teaching hospital. Serving as the regional hub for the Midland area, it spans the Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Lakes, Tairawhiti, and Taranaki districts, making it a key part of the healthcare system for a diverse and thriving region.

The Theatre and Anaesthesia Department at Waikato Hospital is a hub of excellence, featuring 24 Operating Theatres, a Post-Anaesthetic Care Unit, and a Day of Surgery Admission Unit. Our team is equipped to handle a wide range of surgical specialties, including General Surgery, Vascular, Cardiac, Urology, Neurosurgery, Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology, ENT, Plastics, Paediatrics, Delivery Suite, Gynaecology, Maxillofacial, and more. As the major regional healthcare provider for the Midlands area, we pride ourselves on a highly skilled and dynamic team that excels in managing fascinating, complex cases every day.

About you

Skills and experience you'll need to be considered for the role:

  • Minimum of 5 years' previous nursing experience in orthopaedic operating theatres in a large tertiary level hospital
  • Sound understanding of orthopaedic instruments, equipment, and surgical protocols
  • Proven experience successfully leading a team
  • Innovative and able to adapt to change
  • High attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with surgeons, anaesthetists, patients, and theatre staff
  • Proactive and seeks opportunities to take action
  • Current APC & eligibility to work in New Zealand
