About the role

The Assistant Accountant manages transaction and payroll processing for the Group and provides quality accounting, payroll and administrative support to our diverse team. This wide and varied role includes helping to prepare financial reports, assisting with the planning and budgeting process and providing administrative support across our HR, office administration and health and safety activities. As part of a small team the role works closely with the Head of Finance and CFO and is an opportunity to both contribute soundly to core financial processing while growing and broadening your financial skillsets in other areas of accounting and finance.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Finance: Have a love for numbers, analysing data, problem solving.
  • Relationship management: Ability to build professional and highly effective relationships with colleagues. Relatable and approachable.
  • Communication: Confident and professional communication skills (written and verbal). Maintains people's attention. Checks for understanding. Adjusts their style to suit the situation.
  • Teamwork: Cooperative and supportive of others to achieve tasks and goals. Builds trust. Encourages and enjoys working collaboratively.
  • IT: Confident working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Xero and other financial software.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Financial: 1 – 5 years relevant experience including processing accounts payable / receivable and bank payments, preparation of journals, account reconciliations, preparation of monthly financial information and basic knowledge of tax requirements. This may have been gained from experience through audit or business services in an accounting services environment.
  • Tax: Basic knowledge in NZ tax legislation (payroll taxes, GST and income tax).
  • Payroll / HR: Experience in payroll processing and providing basic HR support.
  • Qualification: Degree in Accounting or similar – Preferred/Working towards.
