About the Role

We have an opportunity available to join our Central regional team as a Public Health Nurse. This is a permanent, full-time role, 1.0 FTE.

In this role, you will deliver public health nursing services across schools and the community. Public health nursing includes assessment of personal and population health, attention to the multiple determinants of health, an emphasis on primary prevention, immunisation, and continued commitment to best evidence-based public health nursing practice.

This role is based across the Wellington, Porirua and Kapiti regions.

About the Team/Service/Location

The public health nursing team is part of the National Public Health Service (NPHS) within Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora, and work towards Pae Ora (healthy futures for all) by engaging with the wider determinants that impact people's health, focusing on oranga/wellbeing, prevention, protection, and population-level intervention.

About You

You understand the importance of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and are skilled in applying its principles effectively in your role. You build and maintain positive relationships at all levels and model an agile approach. You learn quickly and adapt fast. You are able to utilise advanced nursing knowledge and skills through reflective practice, critical thinking, and professional judgement to provide competent care and advice while working to top of scope.

Skills and Experience

  • Current registration with Nursing Council of New Zealand as Registered Nurse and hold a current Annual Practising Certificate.
  • 3+ years clinical experience, Authorised Vaccinator or interest in completing training, demonstrate a high level of clinical expertise and clinical judgement, particularly when working with children and adolescents.
  • Hold a minimum of a competent portfolio in an approved PDRP or equivalent with a commitment to continue through the programme.
  • Child and whānau health-related experience.
  • Ability to work within a team and autonomously.
  • Proven experience and competence using Patient Management Systems.
  • An eye for detail and commitment for continuous quality improvement.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Full, clean New Zealand drivers licence.
