Te Korowai Atawhai, Mercy Hospice provides specialist palliative care services for patients and their whānau in central Auckland. The organisation, which has a deep history of partnership and service, has a clear mission and purpose to provide whānau centred palliative care reaching everyone with a need.

Mercy Hospice has a clear, strategic imperative to adapt and shape our services, to reach greater numbers in the community and significantly improve equity of access and outcomes in a financially sustainable manner.

In reshaping our leadership team to meet these challenges, we are seeking applicants for a newly created position – Director, Clinical Delivery, Equity and Outcomes.

With a highly committed, purpose-driven clinical team alongside you and, in collaboration with our hospital and community partners, this position will actively promote equitable healthcare access and enhance clinical outcomes upholding the highest standards of care for patients and their whānau.

Ngā kawenga matua o te mahi | Key responsibilities of the role

This leadership role has overall accountability for all clinical activity – inpatient, community, out-patient and within aged residential care and primary care. In this position you will be leading the design and provision of high quality, safe and innovative patient care, working to actively reduce health inequity for priority populations whilst ensuring compliance with regulatory and quality standards.

Ngā pūkenga e hiahiatia | Skills you'll bring to the role

Palliative care and management: You will have a minimum of 10 years experience in hospice / palliative care, or a closely related field (with exposure to the palliative care system), and at least 5 years in a leadership role. Your clinical skills will be current and credible, and you will have registration in nursing, medicine or allied health.

Improvement: You will bring demonstrable experience in developing and implementing quality improvement initiatives focused on clinical outcomes, patient safety and equity as well as in-depth experience in clinical services planning and design in a palliative care or closely related setting.

Equitable healthcare: Having previously engaged with Māori and Pasifika communities, you will also have a deep understanding of healthcare disparities and a track record of leading pro-equity initiatives with priority populations.

Leadership and coaching: As a leader, we will be looking for someone with curiosity, able to range across all aspects of our service model with an improvement mindset, a coach with a strong emphasis on encouraging individual personal development.
