Visiting Neurodevelopmental Therapist

Contract: Permanent, Part time (0.5FTE)

Salary: Allied, Public Health & Technical MECA, Allied, Public Health & Technical Pay Scale ($70,842 - $100,466 )

Location: Gisborne Hospital, Child Development Service

This position exists to provide occupational/physiotherapy in a transdisciplinary role for the Child Development Service. The key requirements will be the provision of assessment and the ongoing management of children who are at risk of, suspected of having or have confirmed disabilities who are referred for diagnostic assessment. The children may have multiple challenges with communication, sensory, learning, physical and behavioural aspects of their development.

The ideal candidate will:

1. Have a Degree in Occupational or Physiotherapy
2. Hold a current full driver's license
3. Have some experience in working with children with disabilities
4. Experience in assessment and treatment of children with disabilities
5. Have effective oral, written and personal communication skills
6. Have good interpersonal skills to relate well to clients including young children, adolescents and parents
7. Be able to work as a member of a transdisciplinary team
8. Ability to work autonomously and efficiently

There is a shift to interdisciplinary/transdisciplinary approach, which identifies needs of whānau and the best people to provide support—requesting the right support at the right time in the right place. The workforce shares information, works flexibly and collectively to reduce barriers and provide the support that the whānau needs and requests. The transdisciplinary approach reduces barriers and improves access for whānau as teams walk beside people till they get what they need from multi skilled clinicians.
