We have an outstanding career opportunity for an experienced mental health nurse wishing to move into a leadership role within our Mental Health & Addictions Service.

The Associate Charge Nurse Manager is a key senior role within the team responsible for providing leadership and support to staff, taangata whaiora and whaanau, working in close collaboration with the Charge Nurse Manager.


Maaori are significantly over represented across our service and you will need to have an understanding of inequity for Maaori.

Being able to work with Maaori across all levels is essential to this role, so together we can achieve better outcomes for Maaori.

Ward 34 is a 20 bedded unit within the Henry Rongomau Bennett Centre that provides 24 hour care to tangata whaiora experiencing acute mental illness.

It's the perfect time to join our team.

We have a brand new facility being built which will be ready for occupancy in 2025; you will get to work in a state of the art purpose built facility, where we aim to be delivering a service which is culturally led and clinically underpinned.

Be part of leading this change, alongside a great team of managers, clinical leaders and Maaori including our taangata whaiora and whaanau.

Required skills & experience you will need to be considered for this role:

  • A 'you can do it' attitude is vital in this fast paced and high activity environment.
  • A 'curiosity' to enquire what will make a difference for an individual taangata whai ora and their whaanau, and a willingness to lead change to truly make a difference, are all essential skills you hold.
  • Your relationship management skills will be exceptional and you will have a proven track record of being able to bring people together to improve health outcomes and reduce Maaori inequity.
  • You will be motivated to achieve great results, have the ability to make tough decisions when necessary, as well as display initiative and resourcefulness that will allow you to navigate the variety of challenges you could face.
  • You will have a positive disposition where you demonstrate both energy and enthusiasm because you will understand that the key to success lies in our team operating in collaboration with one another.
  • You will be known for your clear and professional communication skills and your ability to remain calm and collected in a fast paced, rapidly changing environment.
