Mō tēnei tūranga | About this role

The Senior Advisor is responsible for providing high quality advice to the Manager, Literacy and Numeracy | Te Reo Matatini me te Pāngarau in relation to the design and delivery of curriculum and assessment policy, tools, and services in support of the NCEA co -requisite.


  • Support the team delivering the NCEA corequisite and related initiatives.
  • Support work programmes and provide input into the work of the Ministry to ensure all products are relevant and fit for purpose.
  • Contribute to an effective team with a positive approach to the work environment that encourages and supports high performance, collaboration and problem solving.
  • Support the development and implementation of innovative and fitfor purpose solutions and frameworks for current and future challenges.
  • Engage in collaborative working relationships within Te Poutāhū, across the Ministry and key stakeholders to design and develop initiatives, products and services that will ensure quality outcomes are achieved.
  • Interpret research and data from a wide range of sources, reporting and analysis and evaluation, to support the design and development of initiatives.
  • Maintain robust relationships with contracted providers.

To be successful in this role you will have experience in bringing people together and working with others to achieve outcomes.

You will also have an ability to use data and insights to identify trends, risks and opportunities, to influence and guide organisational and system-level decision making.

You will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori.

You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public sector.

Mātau rōpū ake | About our ministry, group, and team

At Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga, we work to provide services and support nationally, regionally and locally to the education sector, and in some cases, directly to ākonga and whanau.

To better deliver on this, we are currently undergoing an organisational design change. The transition phase to improve the way we deliver our purpose will be complete in 2023.

Te Poutāhū delivers and maintains critical services to support responsive learner pathways from early childhood into further education, training, the workforce, and society.

Te Poutāhū performs a crucial role working between the strategy and policy teams, and the sector facing functions.

The Secondary Tertiary team sits within the Te Poutāhū and covers the transition from senior secondary through to tertiary and employment.

The Secondary Tertiary team is responsible for operational policy, curriculum and support programmes for Year 11-13 learners, and the secondary-tertiary interface.

This includes senior secondary curriculum, NCEA (including implementing the NCEA Review changes through the Review of Achievement Standards) and secondary-tertiary programmes.
