Mō tēnei tūranga | About this role

This is an exciting new role, therefore as the Manager Organisational Development you would be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive work programme to support the achievement of outcomes that are aligned to the Ministry's purpose and agreed strategies.

This role is part of the People, Sustainability and Place leadership team and will work collectively with colleagues to lead and represent the work that the Group is responsible for delivering.

It oversees the delivery of Learning and Development and Organisational Development services to the Ministry and manages cultural capability uplift, leadership development, delivery of a comprehensive suite of training activities.

The Manager also oversees and leads the Ministry's Health and Safety frameworks throughout the Ministry in each business unit and leads the Diversity and Inclusion team to ensure that we are supporting a welcoming and inclusive work environment.

To be successful in this role you will have proven leadership experience, with the ability to navigate ambiguity in a complex and dynamic environment.

You will be experienced in leading and influencing positive organisational change that delivers intended outcomes by setting a clear strategic direction and creating a safe, open, and innovative team culture.


You will also demonstrate:

  • People and operational leadership experience within a complex environment.
  • Demonstrated experience leading an Organisational Development or Learning and Development function at a senior level
  • Experience in developing and delivering integrated functional strategies, work programmes and budgets.
  • Significant experience communicating with and influencing senior leaders
  • Experience in leading and managing the development, implementation and ongoing monitoring of functional systems, frameworks, and processes.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading organisational change that delivers intended outcomes.
  • Experience building and leading inclusive and diverse teams and creating a respectful, open, and responsive culture.
  • Experience in building relationships and partnerships to achieve shared outcomes.
Mātau rōpū ake | About our ministry, group, and team

At Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga, we work to provide services and support nationally, regionally, and locally to the education sector, and in some cases, directly to ākonga and whanau.

To better deliver on this, we are currently undergoing an organisational design change. The transition phase to improve the way we deliver our purpose will be complete in 2023.
