Principal Strategy Implementation Advisor

The Department of Conservation have an opportunity for a Principal Strategy Implementation Advisor to join on a 13-month fixed term/ secondment basis to lead the design of the implementation pathway and project plan for Te Mana o te Taiao, Aotearoa New Zealand Biodiversity Strategy 2020 (ANZBS).

As Principal Advisor, you will provide leadership on the delivery of an implementation plan, including policy advice, analytical approach to developing actions for New Zealand, development of key milestones, timelines, consultation processes, risk analyses and resourcing requirements.


The position will be focussed on:

  • leading multi-agency collaboration on the ANZBS Implementation Plan
- undertaking analysis and developing high level recommendations for implementation requirements
- resolving issues across project teams, individual project stakeholders, and program stakeholders & sponsors
- coordinating resources across all project teams and allocating funds as necessary
- coordinate the system wide, cross sectoral ANZBS workstreams as an integrated programme.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience

  • Demonstrated experience providing systems thinking and leadership across large, complex projects/ programmes of work.
  • Strong relationship management skills, with the ability to engage clearly, respectfully, and succinctly with all stakeholders.
  • Strategic thinker
- and proven ability to construct conceptual frameworks to inform analysis and assessment of options.

  • Excellent written and oral/ presentation skills, comfortable translating complex information to a variety of audiences.
  • An understanding of the broader strategic context for Te Mana o te Taiao Aotearoa New Zealand Biodiversity Strategy and the biodiversity sector.

Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory - this includes holding a valid work visa that covers the whole period of employment.

The salary range for this position is $105, with the starting salary of the successful applicant being based on their relevant skills and experience.
