The Lead Advisor Pathways is responsible for providing high quality, strategic advice and thought leadership to the Manager, Pathways and Transitions in relation to the design and delivery of curriculum and assessment policy, tools and services.


A focus of the Lead Advisor is on prioritising the work programmes and providing input into the work of the Ministry to ensure all products are relevant and fit for purpose.


  • Contribute to an effective team with a positive approach
  • Lead the resolution of issues, identifying risks and solutions.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of innovative and fitfor purpose solutions and frameworks for current and future challenges.
  • Develop and use data and insights to make evidencebased decisions and recommendations on operational issues.
  • Build capability in others through coaching, quality assurance, and proactively sharing knowledge and expertise.
  • Lead collaborative working relationships within Te Poutāhū, across the Ministry and key stakeholders.
  • Coordinate and engage with working groups, sector meetings, forums and interagency meetings as required to support delivery of the work programme
  • Support and help develop and induct Te Poutāhū staff.

Mātau rōpū ake | About our ministry, group, and team


At Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga, we work to provide services and support nationally, regionally and locally to the education sector, and in some cases, directly to ākonga and whanau.

To better deliver on this, we are currently undergoing an organisational design change. The transition phase to improve the way we deliver our purpose will be complete in 2023.


Te Poutāhū delivers and maintains critical services to support responsive learner pathways from early childhood into further education, training, the workforce, and society.

Te Poutāhū performs a crucial role working between the strategy and policy teams, and the sector facing functions.


The Secondary Tertiary team sits within the Te Poutāhū and covers the transition from senior secondary through to tertiary and employment.

The Secondary Tertiary team is responsible for operational policy, curriculum and support programmes for Year 11-13 learners, and the secondary-tertiary interface.

This includes senior secondary curriculum, NCEA (including implementing the NCEA Review changes through the Review of Achievement Standards) and secondary-tertiary programmes.
