Our people are as diverse as the communities we serve. We care about the wellbeing and success of our people and provide a supportive and inclusive working environment where people can thrive and be who they are.
Lead Advisor - Sexual Violence Service Development
- Are you passionate about helping New Zealand's most vulnerable?
- Help us transform a critical public service and tackle some big issues
- Join a dynamic and inclusive working environment
- 10-month Fixed Term/Secondment, National Office, Wellington based
About our Team
MSD is a member of Te Puna Aonui, which has recently released ‘Te Aorerekura; The National Strategy to Eliminate Family Violence and Sexual Violence'. As a result of this strategy, there is an increased focus on improving support for people who have experienced family violence and sexual violence.
The Safe, Strong Families and Communities (SSFC) team sits within the Māori, Community and Partnerships business unit at MSD. The current focus of the SSFC team is MSD's response to family violence, sexual violence and building financial capability across New Zealand.
We make a real and positive difference for communities; through the services we invest in and the support we give.
About the Role
MSD are the lead agency in Sexual Violence Service Development, with a goal of designing and delivering a more coordinated sexual violence response across the country. MSD are committed to working closely with Te Puna Aonui for Family and Sexual Violence and a wide range of other government and non-government (service providers, community, iwi) stakeholders.
As MSD's Lead Advisor, you will be the delivery lead for this work, alongside the Team Leader. Your role will be to mentor and drive the team, work with key stakeholders (both inside and external to MSD), and inject fresh thinking and agility to enable and catalyse social and economic change in order to get the best outcomes possible for people affected by sexual violence.
We are looking for a broad and strong set of skills within this role. You will be expected to focus on delivery, and to develop and manage relationships with a range of key stakeholders who will be critical to the success of this work.
A key priority will be to help lead the development service guidelines, reporting measures, procurement process and contracts to ensure they are fit for purpose and provide the best outcomes for whānau seeking support for sexual violence.
While the role is based in Wellington, travel is likely for engagement with stakeholders.
Skills and Experience
We are seeking positive individuals, with relevant prior experience in community and social services, or government. You will need excellent relationship management skills and be able to demonstrate how you have contributed to making your working environments great places to work. You will also be able to demonstrate your ability to develop practical solutions for complex problems with a focus on getting the job done To be successful in the role, you will:
- Have the ability to lead complex work programmes/teams in pursuit of a key goal or outcome involving a wide range of key stakeholders
- Be comfortable with ambiguity, but be able to define a path through that ambiguity
- Be able to plan and manage delivery to agreed timelines
- Have a demonstrated ability of working collaboratively but also to influence and manage the expectations of others as required to ensure progress is made and timelines are met
- Lead and manage reporting to senior and executive internal MSD management
- Be an innovative thinker that can provide practical solutions for complex issues
- Be able to mentor and support senior advisors and advisors in their daily tasks
**We also value experience and knowledge in these areas**:
- Engaging with people at all levels (government and non-government)
- Leading community conversations and facilitating workshops
- Experience in community development and design
- Policy writing
- Systems thinking
This is a new challenge for a skilled Lead Advisor. An understanding of sexual violence or experience within the sector is desirable because you will provide important support systems to our New Zealand communities.
If this sounds like you, and you're ready to either take a step up, or take on the next set of challenges in your career, then we want to hear from you
