We are looking for someone to join our dynamic Public Health team who values and is committed to Mātauranga Māori, Tikanga Māori and Te Ao Māori intelligence.

Writing, promoting and advocating for health, wellbeing and equity in all policies, is a Public Health role, which is vital to achieving Pae Ora or healthy futures for Māori and other priority populations in the Waikato.

The health system, along with the wider socioeconomic, cultural and environmental factors, deemed the social determinants of health (SDHs) play a significant role in the total wellbeing of individuals, families/whānau and communities/hapū.

Health Equity in All Policies (HEiAPs) is an approach that recognises the role policy makers have in integrating health, wellbeing and equity in all policy agendas across sectors, institutions and organisations.

As part of the team, the responsibilities of this role are to:

  • Lead and direct the day-to-day healthy policy work of the National Public Health Service, Waikato.
  • Develop and build capacity to advocate for equity awareness, development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation/outcomes in Public Health policy within and outside of Te Whatu Ora Waikato.
  • Analyse new and existing policy with a Te Tiriti o Waitangi and health equity focus to ensure that Public Health initiates, reacts, and responds to both optimise individual, community, and system health gains and mitigate potential negative impacts on health. These include but are not limited to central and local government; Iwi Māori, Pacific, and local providers; and community organisations.
