Mō te tūnga | About the role

Reporting to the Manager, Māori Practice Advice, this role will be responsible for providing specialist practice advice and support to the Quality Practice and Experience group and the wider Oranga Tamariki organisation to support initiatives and developments that promote and deliver quality practice for Māori.

Of key importance will be your high aptitude to provide professional tailored practice advice and continuous improvement methods ensuring an exceptional and consistent delivery of service for tamariki Māori and their whānau.

Fundamental to this role you will work with our new practice approach and framework and contribute to the development of practice including; guidance and tools that help build capability and intentional cultural practices as we strive towards competent practice and outcomes for tamariki Māori.

Ngā pūmanawatanga ōu | What you will bring

Key requirements of the role include:

  • Recognised commitment to te Ao Māori and the promotion of te reo me ōna tikanga.
  • Proven ability to engage and manage stakeholder relationships.
  • Being a conceptual thinker who can translate our aspirations for Māori into actionable practice.
  • Knowledge and experience of Māori approaches within a social services practice context.
  • Proven experience and expertise in tikanga Māori.
  • Ability to use clear and professional written and verbal communication.
  • Knowledge of indigenous models of practice with a commitment to delivering practice that is framed in Te Tiriti O Waitangi and draws from te ao Māori principles of oranga
  • In depth understanding and structural analysis about the position of Māori in today's society in Aotearoa and issues of equity and inequality for Māori impacting on the tamariki we work with.
  • A tertiary qualification or equivalent relevant experience (this is essential).
  • Full registration with New Zealand's Social Worker Registration Board, or ability to obtain full registration.
  • Understanding and appreciation of crosscultural practices in particular; knowledge of tikanga Māori.
