Permanent | Full time We are looking for a Principal Advisor Maori Liaison to join our dedicated team working in the beautiful Upper Hutt.In this role, you will help build and maintain positive and meaningful relationships with Mana Whenua, Iwi and Maori; enabling Upper Hutt City Council to better understand their needs and aspirations; and to support their input into Council's political processes, decision making and activities.The Principal Advisor will provide cultural and strategic advice and support to elected members and council officers, to facilitate partnerships with Mana Whenua and effective engagement with Iwi and Maori regarding delivery of council services and functions.This role will also develop and promote council-wide capability building and training on Te Ao Maori, Te Reo, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and Tikanga Maori to enable Council to build a workforce that engages appropriately and proactively with all Maori.You'll be expected to contribute to Council's collaborative 'one team' culture; with a flexible and hands-on approach to be involved in a variety of work across a range of Council activities and projects.To be successful in this role, you'll be someone who has: Comprehensive understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its principles: partnership, participation, and active protectionFluency in Te Reo Maori preferredExperience working with and/or for Mana Whenua, Iwi, or Maori organisationsUnderstanding and appreciation of local government's role in the communityExperience in developing and leading initiatives and/or projectsExperience in drafting official documentation and reporting collateralAll applications must include a cover letter, CV and a completed online Upper Hutt City Council application form.Applications close 9am on Monday 5 August 2024.
