Working in the Chief Executive's Unit, the Internal Auditor will report to the Business Assurance Manager and will play a key role in the delivery of value-add assurance reviews across a wide range of business units within Palmerston North City Council.

The Internal Auditor will provide independent and objective advice to the organisation that its key controls that are being relied on to mitigate risk are in place and working effectively.


This is an opportunity that would suit an individual with strong relationship management experience and an ability to provide pragmatic and forward-looking advice.


Responsibilities:

  • Scope Terms of Reference for relevant engagements as requested by the Business Assurance Manager
  • Working on internal audit engagements and projects including risk assessment and engagement planning, fieldwork and reporting. Identifying priority areas of risk and process improvement by understanding our clients' systems, objectives, risks, control frameworks and regulatory environments.
  • Monitor and followup on the implementation of the agreed recommendations from both internal and external reviews.
  • Ensure recommendations from external reviews are sufficiently understood by the organisation and an action plan developed to progress the accepted recommendations.
  • Undertake any consultancy services at request, this may include providing advice, facilitation, debriefs or training.

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of relevant experience, preferably internal audit experience but external audit or quality assurance or investigations experience may be transferrable
  • Beneficial to have an understanding of or experience in local government
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with fellow staff, demonstrated strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent time management skills with proven ability to work well under varied priorities
  • Excellent technical and business documentation and reporting skills
  • Ability to adapt to changing demands, meet stated deadlines and troubleshoot as necessary
