Mō tēnei tūranga | About this role

As a Senior Education Advisor, you will work directly with our tumuaki, senior school leaders, Kāhui Ako - Communities of Learning, and Boards of Trustees on strengthening educational performance in schools and kura.

You will ensure that sector leaders and the communities in which they operate have access to the expertise, programmes and resources that will allow our children and young people to reach their full potential.

You will be working as part of the Ministry of Education's regional team, using evidence and data, and designing and implementing projects with schools to strengthen educational performance.

Mōhou ake | About you

You will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori.

You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public sector.


You will also demonstrate:

  • A knowledge and understanding of the NZ education system
  • Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to work effectively across a diverse range of settings
  • A solutions and valuesbased approach
That will enable you to

  • Build trusting relationships and work confidently and effectively with schools, kura kaupapa, iwi, rūnanga and other stakeholders
  • Understand the barriers to engagement and find solutions

At Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga, we work to provide services and support nationally, regionally and locally to the education sector, and in some cases, directly to ākonga and whanau.

To better deliver on this, we are currently undergoing an organisational design change. The transition phase to improve the way we deliver our purpose will be complete in 2023.
