Mō tēnei tūranga | About this role:

This role will give you the opportunity to work in partnership with sector leaders and communities and across Ministry teams to achieve successful educational outcomes for all students.

You must be able to influence others and be able to back this up with extensive knowledge and experience of curriculum, leadership, learning spaces, equity, and inclusion in an education setting.


The primary focus of this role is supporting and enabling initiatives contributing to the positive change that's setting a platform for Canterbury's young learners to be the best they can be.

Key tasks within the role include, but are not limited to:

  • Purposeful maintenance of the relationship with Grow Waitaha Grow Waitaha to ensure this work programme is meeting the aspirations and needs of Ngāi Tahu and all Māori learners who reside within the takiwā (tribal area).
  • Oversight of the allocation of resources and management of the Education Brief process to support school building projects in the region
  • Management of Regionally Allocated PLD, Reading Recovery and Partnership for Schools funding allocations and provider relationships.

Mōhou ake | About you:

We are seeking a dynamic, proactive, and enthusiastic individual to join our team in the Christchurch office.

If you value variety and challenge in your work, have a passion for improving educational achievement for all students/children, particularly Māori and Pasifika, and are committed to building collaborative relationships and finding new ways to do things differently, this could be the role for you.

To be successful in this role you will need to be great at:

  • building successful, collaborative, and sustainable relationships with a range of groups and individuals
- oral and written communication
- managing your time

You will also have:
- a relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent level of practical experience
- a sound knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and understanding of its implications for the Ministry and for the education sector in terms of partnership
- a sound understanding of factors which influence learner achievement and participation
- a good understanding of National Education and Learner Priorities (NELP), Ka Hikitia, the Action Plan for Pacific Education, and Success for All and how these documents impact on this work

At Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga, we work to provide services and support nationally, regionally, and locally to the education sector, and in some cases, directly to ākonga and whanau.
