Who We Are

_ The Role and Opportunity_
- AgResearch is looking for enthusiastic and dedicated students to join us for a Summer Internship program. These are aimed at students who are currently undertaking tertiary study and will run from 20 November 2023 until 9 February 2024. This is an exciting opportunity for you to experience what your professional career at a Crown Research Institute could be like to gain exposure to the Science community, developing skills, and creating connections that will set you up for a bright career.
- This role will be based in Palmerston North.
The Project
- This project will be working on a defined project within a wider science programme, exploring methods and discovering plants that exhibit Biological Nitrification Inhibition (BNI). BNI is a naturally occurring interaction between plant roots and soil biology that has strong potential to reduce emissions of the greenhouse gas nitrous oxide from cropping and pasture systems. The focus is on New Zealand pasture grasses and discovering and improving ways to bring the BNI trait to farmers through plant genetics and soil science.
- Key Tasks will include working with scientists, research associates and other students to enhance our BNI research methods and extend our knowledge of BNI in perennial ryegrass, working in the lab and glasshouse, data management and analysis.
Your Ideal BackgroundCurrently studying in a relevant tertiary course with an interest in plant biology and climate change
- Be able to commit to working from Nov '2
- Feb '24 (excluding our Christmas closedown period)
- A keen attitude and motivation to work in an innovative environment
- Demonstrates safe workplace behaviour by taking all practicable steps to ensure own and other's safety in the workplace
