ABOUT TENNIS NEW ZEALAND:

Tennis New Zealand is the national body for tennis in New Zealand and is responsible for the administration and management of tennis in New Zealand. More than 300,000 people play tennis in New Zealand, making it on the countries' most popular participation sports. Tennis New Zealand staff deliver a range of national and international tennis events, including involvement with the ASB Classic each year.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

There are two open positions for this role, each being a part-time contract covering approximately 10 weeks per year. For the right candidate, we may consider combining both roles into a single position covering 20 weeks per year.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

These positions are responsible for the management and coach support of professional players and those transitioning into the professional space. This person(s) will work alongside the National Coaches to create a continuous pathway of support from junior tennis into professional tennis.

This role may also include Davis Cup or Billie Jean King Cup coaching/captaincy role for appropriate candidate and/or team.

KPI'S:

  • Coach athletes to reach ranking benchmarks agreed with wider HP team in line with strategy
  • Support athletes to success at higher levels of ITF pro and Challenger level internationally
  • Provide training and competition support for pro players returning to NZ during kiwi summer
  • Provide year-round communication to pro players and players at college aiming to turn pro after college
  • Create connected pathway with JDC/JBKC Captains and National Coaches to provide pathway of support and oversight from 14y.o – Pro.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • ITF level 1 qualified (or recognised international equivalent). Or willingness to complete RCC within first 12 months
  • Demonstrated coaching experience across all levels of junior tennis development and WTA/ATP tour level
  • Current first aid certification (essential).
  • Current national police check and/or working with children check (essential).

Given the demands of this role, and the nature of working in sport, work outside standard working hours will be required in the evening and weekends. In addition, extensive domestic and international travel will be a core component in the performance of this role.
