About the team


Our Cost Estimation Team in Grid Development delivers an estimation service to support the investigation and delivery of our grid capital projects and volumetric maintenance works.

This includes maintenance of the cost estimation data base and estimation processes ensuring project estimation accuracy.


The team supports over 50 project managers and engineers nationally through the preparation, development, and review of estimates and analysis of tenders and project outturn costs.

The team provides historic estimation accuracy information to support reporting requirements to the Commerce Commission.

When you join us, you'll ensure that systems, processes, and tools support good cost estimation practice and produce robust cost estimates for our grid projects.

Supporting the team, you'll identify, investigate, and implement on-going improvements for how we work with our customers.

We'll ensure you get to work on the right mix of projects to support your development goals and broaden and deepen your experience over time.


You'll analyse past projects and future forecasts/industry trends, to improve the accuracy of estimates, support optioneering, and maintain cost integrity of cost estimation tools and data sets.

Utilising exceptional relationship management skills, you'll communicate the adjustments and associated impacts to key stakeholders and ensure they are applied to the interfaced systems.


Ultimately at Transpower, you'll operate as a champion for cost estimation best practice both internally and externally as well as providing support and sharing knowledge with other members in the estimating team.


What will you bring?
Strong investigative skills and proven ability to build and maintain great relationships and networks.

Your technical know-how, a passion for process improvement, and well-developed systems thinking will be underpinned by a professional qualification in Engineering or a degree or diploma in Quantity Surveying.


Your CV and cover letter will demonstrate:

  • Cost engineering and electrical estimating experience
  • Leadership experience in the costing of asset construction and maintenance
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills.

While not essential, highly regarded is:

  • Electrical estimating knowledge
  • ideal is experience costing transmission infrastructure projects
  • Experience in contractual negotiation and management
