Mō te tūnga | About the role
The Gastroenterology Clinical Research Team is seeking a Clinical Nurse Coordinator, on a fixed term contract for 12 months. Please note, this position may be extended beyond 12 months, but is dependent on continuation of external funding.


The clinical research team works alongside the Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Unit which undertakes 12,000+ diagnostic and interventional endoscopy procedures per year and provides other gastrointestinal services to the Canterbury population.

It is a secondary and tertiary referral service for the South Island, with a strong research programme that is recognised internationally, in addition to an active undergraduate and postgraduate medical teaching programme.

The primary objective of the Gastroenterology Clinical Research programme is to comply with ICH-GCP guidelines while following specific protocols.

We aim to improve the standards of care offered to our Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Hepatology patients by participating in well-designed clinical trials which can offer access to innovative treatments not normally available within New Zealand.


This role entails the infusion and administration of clinical trial investigational products, whilst providing expert care and advice to patients participating in clinical research.

You would perform and collect patient related study assessments; such as drug administration, vital signs, study blood collection and any other relevant tasks as required by individual study protocols.

You will ensure the safety and rights of the study participant is protected and provide supportive care and education throughout the patient's treatment delivery and observation period.

  • To be successful in this role, you will have:_
  • Sound nursing knowledge and clinical experience (preferably in gastroenterology).
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multifaceted team.
  • Criticalthinking skills to be able to undertake expert patient assessment, planning and interventions as required, as an integral part of the clinical research team.
  • Previous clinical trial experience is desirable, but not necessary if you are open to learning new skills and tasks.

  • You'll have excellent communication and interpersonal skills,
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • You will be required to work 8 hrs shifts, Monday to Friday.
  • Days of work to be discussed during interview phase.
  • You'll have the ability to work on multiple projects at any one time.
  • Excellent organisation skills with attention to detail.
