  • Flexible working options available

As kaitiaki or steward of Aotearoa New Zealand's health system, Manatū Hauora - Ministry of Health regulates the health sector and is the Government's primary source of advice on health matters.

We provide leadership to our health and disability partner agencies, and drive strategy and performance.

Our goal is simple but ambitious:
we want all New Zealanders to achieve pae ora | healthy futures.
Our health system, like others around the world, is under pressure.

Designing a health system that can address these pressures will require us to think strategically and creatively, and to work together across the health system and beyond.

As stewards of the health system, the Ministry needs to have the right people with the right skills and experience to lead and drive system transformation.

We are therefore investing in some new and additional capability to help us with this work.
Do you share the Manatū Hauora vision? Do you believe all New Zealanders should be able to access quality health care, no matter who or where they are? Do you agree it's not enough for some groups of people to have good health outcomes while others are left behind? Do you want to ensure the health system meets it obligations under Te Tiriti o Waitangi, addresses Māori health aspirations and significantly improves health outcomes, particularly for Māori, Pacific peoples and disabled people?

Be part of this change to make sure New Zealanders are cared for by a health system that is innovative, future focussed and world leading.

Ko tāu ake mahi - what you'll do

This new senior leadership role, working alongside the other Chief Clinical Officers, will be responsible for the provision of strategic professional advice and input on the development and provision of maternity care services across the NZ health system.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing senior clinical leadership, advice and support on maternity services to the Director-General of Health and the Minister of Health
  • Be the key point of contact both within Manatū Hauora and across the NZ health system for the development of evidencebased, futurefocused, and innovative advice on the development and implementation of policy and strategy in relation to maternity care services
  • Leading a systems thinking approach across Manatū Hauora and the NZ health system to solve complex problems and in setting and refining the strategic direction
  • Demonstrate thought leadership in the area of maternity services across Manatū Hauora and the NZ health system to set the strategic direction, horizon scan and when grappling with complex problems
  • Providing organisational wide strategic leadership and advice to enable Manatū Hauora to undertake its role for maternity services, ensuring that all parts of the Ministry work in a cohesive and coordinated way to achieve its goals and remain fit for purpose.
Ko ōu pūkenga - what you'll bring

  • Significant maternity experience as a registered health professional with relevant clinical background and postgraduate qualifications
  • Current New Zealand registration and Annual Practising Certificate
  • Experience with working at a systems level and developing innovative approaches to addressing issues and coming up with workable solutions
