The purpose of the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) group is to work in partnership with the rest of the organisation to provide digital technology and communications solutions that support excellence in policing and service delivery and, enable Police's strategic ambitions.


Increasingly technology is playing a pivotal role in policing and the demand for new or improved digital services is high.

To position Police well for the future, we have recently embarked on a significant change to the way we approach technology delivery and as a result have three new Director roles to fill on the ICT Senior Leadership Team.


The Director Networks and Infrastructure is a strategic leader accountable for ensuring the continuous evolution of the Products within the Networks & Infrastructure Portfolio to meet the needs of a large and complex operating environment that is required to be highly secure by design and dependable in times of crisis.

This role engages and builds trust with internal customers to understand their current and emerging requirements as well as technology vendors, to align and influence vendor roadmaps, ensure commercial alignment, communicate change and identify opportunities for innovation within NZ Police.


This role operates as a member of the Senior ICT Leadership Team and contributes to the strategic direction, operational planning, and running of the ICT business unit.


Key Accountabilities:

  • Drive the vision of a cloudbased infrastructure model, and implement capability plans to ensure our people have the skills to be highly effective in their roles.
  • Ensure that workforce plans are adaptable and can manage shifting organisational needs.
  • Drive delivery of outcomes whilst building strong internal and external relationships by aligning and empowering all stakeholders.
  • Engage effectively with partners, suppliers and external stakeholders to ensure maintenance of existing technology.

  • Experience managing significant commercial relationships to maximise value delivered
  • Proven ability to analyse complex problems, identify opportunities for improvement and develop and implement solutions;
  • Experience driving delivery in a complex environment and enabling significant shifts in the adoption of modern technology options
  • Experience making strategic financial decisions that deliver ICT strategies for large, complex organisation(s).
