The Corporate and Shared Service (CSS) directorate sits within Te Tai Ōhanga - The Treasury and plays a lead role in supporting the vision of multiple state sector agencies including the Treasury, the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (DPMC), the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and the Climate Change Commission.

Broadly, the directorate provides services in multiple areas, including but not limited to financial management, people and wellbeing, information management and information technology.

This shared service supports a State sector wide objective to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of government, ensuring it has the resilience, capability and values that underpin organisational success.

Kōrero mō te tūranga | About the Role

Within CSS, the IT - Technology Infrastructure team focuses on the innovation and maintenance of the IT infrastructure on which our managed central agencies rely.

We have an opportunity for a Senior Network Engineer to join our team.

The primary focus of this role is to manage, maintain and develop the CSS network to enable our agencies to meet their strategic priorities.

Kōrero mō te tūranga | About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Network Engineer who will have strong skills managing switches, firewalls, routers and network encryption tools.

As well as Cisco, Checkpoint and Juniper network tools management, there are elements of cloud networking required as a part of the role.

There are also opportunities to extend into other areas important to CSS, such as disaster recovery, business continuity planning, and security.

  • A strong technical aptitude and demonstrated skill in performing technical problem determination and analysis
  • A cando attitude
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A computer science or ICT related university degree or equivalent industry qualifications or experience
To be considered for this role you should have good technical, communication and interpersonal skills, with your experience ideally supported by relevant industry certifications:

  • In-depth experience with network management, design and administration
  • Indepth experience with routing protocols such as BGP and OSPF
  • Security firewalls experience with (Cisco, Checkpoint, Fortinet etc).
  • Experience in network coding or automation in at least one language, such as Python, PowerShell, or a Linux shell.
  • Indepth experience with network fault identification and resolution
  • Experience in cloud networking and configuration
  • Relevant certifications related to networking and security (CNNA's, NSE, etc).
  • Exposure to Cloud networking technologies.
